Daring!

Action! Adventure! Daring Rescues! These are all things I've never written before, and probably suck at. But today I'm going to try and write some!

This was surprisingly fun to write. I hope you enjoy reading it! I may make it into a small series of shorts.

Conner Wilson and The Idol

This wasn't were he wanted to be. Surrounded by raising water trapped in a quickly crumbling temple. Conner Wilson wiped the sweat from his brow. Why did he volunteer to climb into this death trap? This wasn't his style! The water raised quickly and soon Conner was huddled on the highest perch he could find.

"Up here, Conner!" came the shout of a manly voice. The voice of inspiration! Conner looked up to see his mentor, and hero, Frank Corbin, adventurer extraordinaire! "Grab the rope!"

Conner reached out and grabbed the rope that hung just barely within reach and held on with all his strength. Soon he was pulled from the rapidly filling water hole and placed on soft ground.

"Thanks, Frank. I thought I was done for."

"We're not out of here yet, Conner." Frank pulled Conner to his feet and hurried him along a worn path away from the hole. Conner rushed as quickly as he could, not sure of what was going on. He turned to see what they were running from. He saw the hole he was pulled from sprouting water.

"What's going on?"

"The island is sinking. Whatever you did down there you triggered some kind of, self-destruct."

If Conner wasn't already red from running he'd have blushed harder. He didn't think taking the bronze idol from the temple would collapse the whole island! Maybe cause a giant boulder to chase him through a narrow hallway, but not this!

They quickly reached there camp where Frank shouted some quick instructions in Swahili. The crew scrambled to gather the essentials as they all headed to the planes they took to get there. Conner rushed into his tent and started to pack everything he had. Extra cloths, mosquito repellent, his camera. Why didn't he bring his camera into that temple? He could've taken pictures!

"Clock's ticking, Conner!" Came Frank's heroic voice. Wrapping his camera around his neck, Conner grabbed everything he could carry in his arms and ran out of the tent, dropping various trinkets as he ran.

"Did you forget anything?" Frank joked.

"Just the kitchen sink." was Conner's reply.

"Look at you! Trading quips with the big guys! You'll be off adventuring on your own in no time!" Frank laughed heartily and took off at a sprint to the nearest helicopter.

Conner and Frank threw there gear and accessories into the helicopter. "Looks like we just made it little buddy." Frank patted Conner on the back. They turned to climb into the waiting helicopter and found themselves face to face with revolver. The man behind it held out his hand.

"The idol." He spoke with a thick Swahili accent.

Frank glared. "Give him the idol, Conner."

"But, we found it! It's ours!"

The man cocked the revolver. "Give me the idol, or I will take it from you. And you don't want me to take it from you."

Frank turned to Conner. "Don't throw away your life. We'll get it back."

"Fat chance!" the man spat. "The idol! Now!"

Conner reached into his side pack and gently handed the idol to the man.

"Good." The man tapped the pilot on his shoulder and the helicopter took off.

"Now how are we going to get off this island!?"

"Follow me." Frank grabbed Conner by the shoulder and yanked him along.

They ran through some winding bush work and came to a cliff edge. The sea raging below them. Frank pulled a flare from his side pack and lit it. He waved it in the air frantically.

"A flare? Its mid day! Whose going to see that!?" Conner looked around panicked. The sea below was climbing higher. He could hear the water rushing behind him now. "Frank! What are we going to do!?"

Frank stood adamantly waving his flare. "Frank, that's NOT working! We need to get out of here now!" Conner looked around. Maybe there was something they could fashion into a makeshift boat or a raft?

Frank tossed the flare into the sea and smiled. "You ready to head home, Conner?"

Conner looked around confused at the rapidly worsening situation. "What are you talking about!? We're trapped on a sinking ISLAND!"

Frank laughed. "Just listen." All Conner could here was the water rushing to drag them into a water abyss.

"What am I listening for!?" Cried Conner. And suddenly the sound found his ears. It was difficult to hear over the crashing waves and cracking of trees but it was there. A bi-plane was approaching.

On the horizon a bi-plane came flying over and made a landing in the water, just a few yards away from the sinking island.

"Now's the hard part, Conner. Ready to swim?" Conner nodded not sure of what to say. "Ok, JUMP!" Frank pushed Conner off the cliff and jumped into the water below.

Conner plunged deep into the ocean waters and begin to kick like his life depended on it, because it very well might. After a few seconds Conner breached the water and took in a gulp of air. "Don't stop moving!" Came Frank's voice from afar. Conner started to swim towards the bi-plane that sat waiting in the water.

As he swam he could feel the current of the water pulling him back. 'Harder, Conner! Kick harder!' he willed himself. Conner could feel his body about to give out. The current was pulling harder than he could. This was it. This was the end of Conner Wilson!

As Conner was about to give in he felt himself lifted from the water and into the waiting by-plane. There was Frank and a man behind the pilot seat he'd never seen before. "Always have a backup plan." Frank said as he patted Conner on the shoulder. Conner smiled weakly and took a seat as the by-plane started to move.

"What do you think of your first adventure, Conner? You did good by the way! I'm proud of you!" Frank beamed at his young apprentice.

Conner smiled. "I think I need a new camera."
