I watched Fight Club for the first time last night and was REALLY inspired.
Unfortunately (as is the case lately) I'm a bit too busy to fully delve into the expressive writing I want to, so instead I'll be leaving you with something shorter, I you enjoy it.
In one swift movement he tossed the cigarette stub and light another. He took a puff before he continued.
"It's like, if you don't fucking care what other people think, you'll be that much happier, ya know? And that's the most important thing is to be true to your own sense of happiness!"
George swallowed and was about to say something but Tom continued.
"Cause we all have a different idea of what happiness is, right? I mean, for me its a cup of Timmies and a cigarette, for you it's, what?"
"It's..."
"Exactly!" Came Tom's interruption. "It's different for everyone! So long as I have enough money in my pocket for a pack of smokes and a large black coffee I'm golden." He took a puff. and stared into the sky.
"Yeah I agree with you. The world can be an incredible place."
"Oh no shit!" Tom started up again. "There's NO way you can conceive of what's going on in the world. NO WAY! It's too vast and too much is happening! You need to stop and just enjoy." Tom paused for a moment. "I wanna do something reckless."
He could switch gears like a bike. "What do you wanna do?" George inquired re-adjusting his glasses.
"Let's break a window or something. But not here. Lets find a house, something abandoned cause I don't wanna hurt anyone. I'm not that guy. I'm not a dick. I just want to break something. Get this aggression out! Ya know? I'm wired right now." Tom paced up and down the concrete sidewalk next to the Tim Hortons. "Maybe not a window."
George looked at his watch. "It's 5:30 in the morning, Tom. Don't you think you should get some rest?"
Tom stopped and thought for a second. "Probably. But I'm too wired. I gotta do something."
George yawned and pulled out his car keys. "Well, I'm gonna go to bed then man. I'll talk to you later okay?"
"Yeah man, later. Don't worry about a ride. I need to burn this energy. I'm gonna go start a fight. Maybe. Nah, I'm not a dick." Tom quickly zig-zagged off into the night. George just smiled, got in his car, and drove home.
George had never seen Tom that energetic and worked up. It was kind of nice to see him excited about something. Too bad it was about being reckless. 'Oh well,' George thought. 'He'll be fine.'
It wasn't until the phone rang two days later that George found out what Tom had gotten up to that night.
