I think I like this segment a lot. It's pretty interesting.
The weekend finally came and Shannon was looking forward to a relaxing Friday night. After dinner she sat down in her room and opened 'Nineteen Eighty Four.' She was nearly finished the book.
She hadn't been reading long when the phone rang. Soon Eddie knocked on her door.
"Phone's for you." he called through the door.
Shannon wondered who it was. The party Amanda invited her to was tomorrow. Maybe Aberdine wanted to complain about the english assignment some more. She picked up the phone in her room.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Shannon." came Jeremy's familiar voice.
"Jeremy? What's up?" Shannon didn't know if she was nervous or excited he was calling her.
"Not much, just missed our weekly chat about global reform." Jeremy said.
"If I recall last time it was a chat about global domination." Shannon joked.
Jeremy chuckled a bit. "I was just thinking about how we treat people in society."
"What do you mean?"
"Well. I was just wondering why we give people just artificial labels like, cool, or loser. I mean, we're all people, right? Why discriminate?" Jeremy paused for a moment. Shannon listened thoughtfully. "It's not like there already isn't enough discrimination. It makes me sad to think we can label people without knowing them."
"Do you think people label you?" Shannon asked.
"Nah, I don't know. I don't really pay attention to what others think of me. I mean, why bother listening to what a bunch of people think who don't matter. Who needs that kind of negativity, really?"
"And yet you called to hear what I think about global reform." Shannon gibed.
"Well thats different," Jeremy defended, "I just find not a lot of people are as open minded as you."
"I see. I can understand where you're coming from there." Shannon nodded thinking of how little co-operation there was between Amanda and Aberdine despite having so much in common.
There was a lull in the conversation. Shannon thought of how to fill the gap quickly. "Hey, are you going to that party tomorrow?"
"Oh, you mean the one at Cassie's place? I didn't know you were invited."
"Amanda's bringing me." Shannon added feeling a bit embarrassed she wasn't invited directly.
"Yeah, that's how most people get to Cassie's parties." Jeremy chuckled. "But now that I know you'll be there I might make an appearance. We can hang out and talk some more about how to save the world from itself."
"Or we could keep talking now?" Shannon said hopefully. She didn't want the conversation to end just yet.
"Nah. I'll save it for tomorrow night. Talk to you then." Jeremy said. And then he hung up.
Shannon smiled. Jeremy had called her. HE had called HER! And all because she was interested in helping others like he was. She could hardly contain her excitement she needed to tell someone. So she picked up the phone and called Amanda.
"Amanda? You'll never guess what just happened!"
