Shannon

A very short segment today.

Despite all of Aberdine's warnings and insisting Shannon decided to end this nightmare early. She was going to confront Cassie.

Cassie was sitting surrounded by friends in the school commons. Shannon had watched her for a few minutes before deciding to approach. She took a deep breath and walked over.

Shannon felt confident. Cassie was another human being. She wasn't the embodiment of evil like Aberdine said. She could be reasoned with. If Shannon could make her see that there was no reason to be hostile, maybe Cassie and Shannon could be friends?

As Shannon stopped in front of Cassie and her friends they stopped talking. "Cassie, may I talk to you?" Shannon asked.

"What do you want?" Cassie snapped. Her friends giggled and sneered. Shannon could already feel her composure faltering.

"I came to end this silly feud." She stated.

"Listen to her? Who talks like that!?" one of the other girls laughed.

Shannon struggled to keep her frustration down. She would make it through this encounter without turning into them. "I want to apologize for what happened at your party the other week."

Cassie shushed the others and started to pay attention.

"What happens with your family is your business and no one else's. I shouldn't have brought it up and for that I'm sorry." Shannon felt like she was making way. Cassie and her friends had gone silent and seemed to have nothing to say. "I hope you understand I never intended to hurt or offend you in any way. And maybe we could start over. As friend?" Shannon smiled and held out her hand.

Cassie stared at her hand for a few minutes before standing up and looking Shannon in the eye. Shannon meekly withdrew her hand. "Listen. I don't want your apology. I don't like you. In fact, I hate you. I will always hate you."

Shannon could feel heat rising in her cheeks. Cassie's friends stood up and surrounded Cassie making her look that much more intimidating.

"I will never be your friend for as long as I live." Cassie turned and walked away, her posse following her.

Shannon was in shock. She didn't know what went wrong. She apologized and tried to be reasonable, she had done everything right. And yet, she somehow felt like she was in a worse position than she started in.
