"And hes so cute and so funny and he has a car!" Jasmine's voice squeaked with excitement. She hadn't stopped talking since class started. Shannon did her best to smile and pretend like she was interested as she walked to her next class.
"He sounds great, Jasmine. But shouldn't you be heading to your next class now?" Shannon asked.
"I am! Did I forget to mention we have Math together?" Jasmine smiled.
Shannon pulled out her schedule to see if she had math next. "So we do." She said stuffing her schedule back into her bag, defeated. "I didn't realize you took advanced math."
"Oh yeah!" Jasmine chimed "A lot of people think I'm dumb but I'm actually wicked smart when it comes to math!"
"Well, maybe you can help me then. I'm not that great at it, actually." Shannon looked away. "I probably should've taken regular math."
"I'll totally help you, Shan-shan!"
Shannon cringed as Jasmine said this. Jasmine went on to ramble about how wonderful her new college boyfriend was.
At lunch Shannon found Eddie and Aberdine sitting at their table in the corner as usual. She slumped down beside Aberdine and dropped her head onto the table with a loud thud.
"That sounded like it hurt." Aberdine said.
"Jasmine won't stop talking about her new boyfriend." Shannon moaned. "I can't get rid of her either! It's like we have every class together or something!"
"At least you don't have lunch together." Eddie pointed out.
"Yeah, the one saving grace is I get to eat lunch in peace." Shannon sat up. "Guys. Help."
"Sorry, Shan-shan, this is your problem, not mine." Eddie smiled smugly and went back to eating his sandwich.
"Shan-shan?" Aberdine said.
"It's a dumb nick-name Jasmine came up with." Shannon explained. "What about you, Aberdine? Will you help me get Jasmine to leave me alone?"
"I wish I could but I have a lot on my plate already." Aberdine explained. "With student council elections coming up I have to hit the campaign trail again and make sure all the students know who to vote for."
"What about the Event Planning Committee?" Shannon asked. "Are you going to join them again this year?"
"Can't." Aberdine said succinctly. "I'll be too busy with my student council president duties that I won't have time."
"Well, I can't be upset about that. I hope you win." Shannon said.
"Don't hope. I know I'll win." Aberdine smiled. "Almost all the other candidates dropped out over the summer. That's what the principal wanted to let me know. There's just me and some guy named Jason Olinger, whoever that is." Aberdine stretched her arms and leaned back. "This should be a cake walk."
"Well, good luck anyways." Shannon said. "I guess I'll just have to put up with Jasmine's overly chipper attitude for now."
"Why don't you just tell her you don't want to hear about her boyfriend?" Eddie asked.
"I couldn't do that. It'd be so mean."
"Shannon," said Aberdine, "you need to stop being such a push over."
