Shannon

I was feeling kinda low today, so I decided to write some more Shannon to pick me up.

It must've worked because I'm already looking forward to writing the next instalment!

The school bell rang and all the students filed outside and rushed to get home. It was the first long weekend of the school year. Shannon stood at the bottom of the front steps tapping her foot impatiently. Eddie stood next to her and rolled his eyes.

"They're not going to be here. I told you." Eddie said.

"I know I know." Shannon sighed. "I was just hoping we could all make plans for this weekend is all." Shannon gave up her vigil and walked Eddie to his car.

"You have to accept that you're going to see less and less of them now that schools back in." said Eddie.

"I already see less and less of them when schools out." Shannon pouted. "Amanda's on the Senior Varsity Basketball team so she's at practice all the time. And with Aberdine as our new student council president I never see her, except when she drops by to talk to the Event Planning Committee."

"Speaking of the Event Planning Committee, shouldn't you be at some kind of meeting yourself?" Eddie asked.

Shannon shook her head. "Since we don't have as many events to plan, just a holiday dance, an after exams event, and the prom, we don't have to meet as often as last year."

They stopped at Eddie's car and stood silently for a moment.

"I wish you didn't move back home. I miss having you around." Shannon admitted.

"I miss it too, but Dad insists I spend more time with my brother. Says it's not healthy for a family to be split apart like that." Eddie recited with robotic indifference. "Let me give you a ride home at least, for old times sake." Eddie walked around to the passengers side door and opened it for Shannon. Shannon smiled and got in.

As they drove Eddie suddenly asked "What ever happened to you and Jeremy? What's going on with that?"

Shannon turned red. "Don't ask. I haven't seen him since the summer."

"Two weeks into the school year and you haven't tracked him down yet? You must be slipping." Eddie laughed.

"Keep your eyes on the road." Shannon snarked.

That night Shannon spent alone in her room quietly reading. She couldn't focus on her studies, all she could think about was how little of her friends she got to see. And, thanks to Eddie, how she hadn't seen Jeremy for almost a month.

A knock came at her bedroom door followed a moment later by Fredrick's familiar voice. "The phones for you."

Shannon opened the door, took the phone and shut the door again.

"Hello?"

"Hello?" Beth's voice on the other end echoed.

"Beth?"

"Hey Shannon! Hows it going?"

"Fine I guess." Shannon sat on the bed. "What's up?"

"I was wondering what you're plans are for the long weekend."

Shannon looked at her empty calendar. "Um. Kinda busy, why?"

"I was hoping you could come to a party I'm having at my place this weekend. My parents are out of town for two weeks."

Again Shannon looked at her empty calendar. "Can I bring a friend?"

"Sure!"

"I don't know. I'll have to cancel a few plans to be there."

"Hey if you can't make it it's ok. I understand." Beth's voice sounded a bit disappointed.

"I'll be there, Beth." Shannon assured her.

"Great! Party starts tomorrow and doesn't stop till Sunday night!"
