Continued story

Ah the story continues! I feel like I need a few more days dedicated to keeping this story going if I want it to end at some point.

Oh well, the point was to write and continue to write I shall!

The next installment is found after the break!

Night had come and gone and Shannon still hadn't slept. It was the first time she was nervous staying in a new house. The pull out couch was uncomfortable and felt like sleeping on a stone slab. Still she lay in bed staring at the ceiling wondering why it was so pointy.

There was a knock on the door. It opened and Meredith peaked her head in. "Are you awake, dear?"

"Yes." Shannon faked a yawn and pretended to be just waking up.

"Did you want to take a shower?"

"Sure." Shannon stretched and set out one of her few sets of cloths.

After her shower she sat down at the kitchen table brushing her hair with a comb Elizabeth had given her. Fredrick sat across from her reading the paper while Meredith made pancakes. Shannon wondered if every morning would feel like this.

"So how'd you sleep?" Came Fredrick's voice from behind the paper.

"Oh quiet well!"

"That's a surprise." Meredith chimed in from the stove. "That couch is like sleeping on a brick!"

"Oh I didn't have trouble sleeping at all." Shannon lied not wanting to see ungrateful.

"Well, maybe we'll put of getting a new bed for a few weeks then." Fredrick's voice once again resonated beyond the paper.

"Well, it was sort of hard." Shannon admitted. Fredrick folded the paper to reveal his grinning face.

"I'll take you into town to get a new bed today. Now eat up or your breakfast will get cold." Meredith served up their breakfast and they all ate in silence.

Shannon had been waiting in the car for what seemed like an hour. She rolled down the window and called to the house. "Hurry up Fredrick! I want to go get my new bed!"

"The stores not going anywhere." Fredrick sauntered over to the truck.

"No but I'm going crazy waiting!"

Fredrick climbed into the drivers seat and started the car. Shannon hadn't smiled so hard since she got here. Maybe it was the house, but she liked going out more than staying in.

They listened to the radio on the way to the store and Shannon sang along-even if she didn't know the lyrics she'd make them up. They picked out a HUGE bed to be delivered to the house. On the way pack they stopped and got ice cream together. When they got back to the house the delivery truck was already there.

"Oops. I guess we took too long. I better handle this." Fredrick locked the car and went into the house to deal with the delivery. Shannon followed close behind.

"Fredrick! What took so long! The delivery men said they left AFTER you!"

"Sorry dear. Must've taken a wrong turn."

"You went and had ice cream without me didn't you! Oooh! You steam me sometimes, Fredrick!"

Fredrick just laughed and walked off to help the delivery men.

"Shannon come. We're going to make some cookies for tonight."

Ok. Shannon followed Meredith into the kitchen.

"So Shannon, what's your favorite cookie?" Meredith asked as she pulled some eggs out of the fridge.

"Um. I haven't really tried all the cookies but I really like Chocolate chips cookies!" Shannon was worried her lack of expertise on cookies might be problem. "That's ok, right?"

Meredith chuckled. "That's quiet alright dear! I love chocolate chip cookies too."

Shannon smiled and watched Meredith work silently.

"Do you like being here, Shannon?"

"Of course I do!" Shannon blurted.

"I was just wondering because you're so quiet."

"I just don't want to be a bother."

"Sweetie, you're our daughter now. You won't bother anyone."

"But it's only been a day, and what if you decide you don't want me anymore? What if you..." She couldn't bring herself to say it.

"We'll never leave you dear. Don't worry. You're a Baker now! And Bakers don't quit." Meredith winked at Shannon. "Now grab the chocolate chips from the bottom of the fridge and I'll show you how to make the best chocolate chip cookies you've ever had!"
