Continuing the story

Once again we come to Continuing Story Tuesday! Since the story is NO WHERE NEAR complete, lets dive into the next part of Shannon and her new life!

Shannon could hardly wait to see the place she would call home. It was all she could to do to keep herself firmly planted in the back seat. Sitting right in the middle so she could see out the front windshield she leaned as far forwards as the seat belt would allow. She could barely see over the dashboard.

"Is it a big house?" She asked unable to contain her excitement and curiosity.

"You'll see." Meredith chuckled as she produced another sweet from her purse.

"Do you live near a school? Will I walk to school? I've always wanted to walk to school!"

"The school is only a few blocks away." Fredrick informed her.

Shannon's eyes darted around the area taking in as much as she could. Who knows? Maybe one day she would be walking by that hair dressers on her way to her new best friends place.

"This day must be really something for you." Fredrick called back to her. "Meeting your new family on your birthday."

"It's your birthday today?" Meredith's face lit up. "Why didn't you tell us!"

"I didn't want it seem like I was forcing you into adopting me." Shannon looked down at her feet ashamed. "If you didn't adopt me they would've sent me to a group home tomorrow."

The car was silent for a moment. "Well its a good thing we came when we did. You're ours now and no one will change that." Fredrick reassured Shannon. "And here we are, your new home."

The car pulled into the driveway of a one floor suburban home. The place was tiny. Most of the front yard was taken up by the driveway. There was a strip of grass that ran down the right side of the house. There was no garage, just a tiny home with a tiny wooden fence that bordered it.

Shannon felt slight disappointment but it didn't last. It may not have been Elizabeth and Matthew's grand country home but at least it was hers. "Where's my room?" She asked excitedly.

"Well, we haven't made it up yet. We weren't sure we were even going to adopt today." Meredith looked nervous and guilty. "Fredrick, show her."

Fredrick lead Shannon through the house to a small spare room they had. There was a window with some thin white drapes and a couch in the corner. "We'll go out tomorrow and pick out any bed you like. For now we only have the pull out couch." Fredrick set up the bed for Shannon to see. "It's only for tonight. I promise."

"That's ok. It looks more comfortable than the beds at the orphanage." Shannon joked trying to hide her worry.

"The washroom is across the hall if you want to have a shower and get changed. Meredith is starting supper now."

"Thanks. Um, Fredrick?"

Fredrick paused and looked at Shannon. "Yes?"

"Are you going to introduce me to the rest of your family?"

"Tomorrow."
