Today is the first day of the continuing story! I don't know how long these stories will be. Maybe they'll be 2 parts and end each week, or maybe they'll last the month, who knows?
Anyways. Today is Continuing story Tuesday! So I hope you enjoy it!
Shannon the Orphan
Shannon was an orphan. She was left in the care of the orphanage after her parents had died in a car accident. She was too young to remember. All she knew was the orphanage. And while the orphanage was a kind and good place to her, she wanted to leave it so badly.
Every Thursday the kids were told to line up and dress their best for prospective parents. As she stood the caretakers would brush her hair thoroughly-sometimes too thoroughly-and straighten her cloths all to make her look more "presentable." She always felt like a rag doll after. It must've worked because after her third week of this she found a home.
A middle aged man brought her home. He was the first family she had. His name was Richard and he was rich beyond her wildest dreams. She felt like she was a princess living in his condo on the waterfront. She had a nice big room and a beautiful oak dresser to keep her cloths in-what little she had.
But this fairy tale didn't last long. She found out soon that Richard didn't like noise, or playing, or doing anything fun. In fact, whenever Richard was home she was to remain in her room and be silent. After a month he sent her back to the orphanage. She cried for weeks.
Her second family was much nicer. Tom and Karen, a young couple unable to have kids. They took her in and cared for her as if she was their own. They had a small house with a big yard for her to play in. She made lots of friends in the neighborhood. But one day something no one expected to happen, happened. Karen was pregnant. Although this should've been a happy occasion for Shannon-she always wanted to be a big sister-it was not.
Soon Karen and Tom paid more attention to their newborn. She was given everything Shannon couldn't have. It was obvious Tom and Karen cared more for their child than for Shannon. So she ran away.
They took her back to the orphanage when they found her. Tom and Karen didn't even try to keep her around.
Her third family she hated. A pair of mean women who made her clean the house and do laundry all day. She hated it and wasn't sad to leave them at all.
Her fourth family was an elderly couple who had never had children of their own. They were wonderful. Elizabeth and Matthew. They owned a small cottage in the country where they lived. It had beautiful wooden floors and an old well out front. Shannon felt like life would finally be looking up for her! Unfortunately life had other plans.
After a year Elizabeth passed away. And a few months later Matthew had passed on as well. Shannon was devastated. Because they had no next of kin, Shannon was to be placed in the care of the system. At this time she was 8 years old and because of her age she had a choice. A choice between going to a group home for other older children, who-like she-had never found a home. Or she could go back to the orphanage.
Shannon chose the orphanage. As much as she wanted to leave, it was the only place that felt familiar-like a home to her. It ate at her inside everyday. She thought she was destined to never have a family, to never leave the orphanage, to never be happy.
But sometimes destiny has other plans.
