This one is a bit sweeter of a story. A lot of what Short Story Ideas has given me are dark and serious themes, this one was a bit more light hearted. I got to play around with character names a lot today and I kind of enjoyed that.
Anyway, that's the end of the 7 days of Short Stories from Short Story Ideas. It was kind of interesting, a little disappointing that 3 took place at an Internet Cafe but I like to think I made it work. Tomorrow I go back to just doing what I feel I can do until I come up with another gimmick.
Enjoy the second story!
Mistaken Identity
Christine Dixon was not her name, but she was certain the letter was meant for her. She had found it in her desk and found it next to her pencil case, and now she was going to find out who left it.
Not Christine Dixon waited with great anticipation for the end of school. The letter said to meet them in the forest behind the school. She was so excited her little heart nearly beat itself out of he chest. She eyed the clock as the second ticked away. Soon she would be outside, meeting her secret admirer.
The bell rang and she bolted out from behind her desk into the playground and up the hill towards the forest.
The forest was always thick and full of trees and she waited just inside the tree line watching the other children leave the school. She could barely contain her excitement as she saw Peter Jenkins, the cutest boy in second grade walking up the hill to the forest.
Not Christine Dixon wanted to skip and sing up to him and throw her arms around him, but she contained her excitement. She watched as Peter sheepishly looked around and then bolted towards the forest.
He came to a stop a few feet away from her.
"Hi." She whispered.
"Hi." He returned.
"I got your letter."
"Um, yeah." Peter dug at the ground with his sneakers. "So um. yeah."
Not Christine Dixon thought it was cute that he was so nervous.
"Um. I like you. I guess." Peter admitted, his face lighting up red.
"I like you too." said Not Christine Dixon.
"So, um. Wanna be my girlfriend?"
"Yes." Came Not Christine Dixon's sheepish reply.
"Really! Oh jeez! That's swell!" Peter's face lit up. Not Christine Dixon couldn't help but smile. "Um. I have to go home now, though. My mom is waiting for me. See you tomorrow Christine!"
Peter Jenkins took off toward the street and ran off.
Not Christine Dixon smiled. She wanted to tell him her name wasn't Christine Dixon. She wanted to correct him. But she didn't want to embarrass him. How terrible would that be? If it was her, she'd be so embarrassed she might die!
"I guess I can be Christine Dixon for a bit longer."
