Shannon

Another installment of Shannon to brighten up your day!

Except that it's not very bright...

"Shannon where have you been? We haven't seen you in weeks!" Amanda plopped into the chair next to Shannon, who had already started eating her lunch. It was the first time she'd not eaten lunch at the various fundraising booths the committee had set up around the school.

"Sorry guys," Shannon sighed, "the committee's been really busy fundraising for the Halloween dance."

"You mean that lame dance they announced this morning?" Eddie asked. Amanda shot a death glare at him but he ignored it. "Who would pay three bucks to go to a high school dance?"

"For once, Eddie, I agree with you." Aberdine chuckled.

"I was hoping you'd all buy tickets." Shannon said looking away embarrassed.

"I don't do, dances." Aberdine said waving her hand dismissively.

"Come on, Eddie! Let's buy tickets! It could be fun!" Amanda said elbowing Eddie hard in the ribs. "It's only five bucks for two people. We can go together."

Eddie rolled his eyes and dug out five dollars from his wallet. "I stand by what I said about dances being lame." he said as he handed Shannon the money. Shannon smiled and gave Eddie and Amanda two ticket stubs.

"Remember those the night of the dance or you can't get in." Shannon said pointing at the tickets. "Please try to convince other people to go to this dance! It would mean so much to me." Shannon pleaded.

"Why's this such a big deal anyway?" Aberdine asked eyeing the ticket stubs in Eddie's hand. "I mean, it's just a dumb dance."

"We need to pull of this dance to prove to the student council our group deserves funding." Shannon lamented. "That's the only reason why we're charging for admission. We have no money to hold this dance, we've had to fundraise everything!"

"Why don't you just appeal to the student council for more money?" Amanda asked. "The junior girls basketball team got a huge budget, I'm sure all the other teams did too. More than enough for the school year. I bet if you cut a bit from each team you'd have a decent sized budget for the committee."

"We can't," Shannon groaned, "the student council president is Cassie."

"What!?" Amanda looked around shocked. "How did she become student council president!?""

"She started campaigning last year before the end of school." Aberdine explained. "Thats why she wasn't picking on us so much near the end there. She was busy trying to prop up this image of being a caring student for the student council elections held in the beginning of each school year. She officially applied for candidacy the first week of school registration and when the election results came in she won the majority."

"What election? I don't remember an election!" Amanda blared.

"Same here." Eddie confusedly added.

"There was a small green slip of paper sent out to each home room the day of the election. It had the names of the candidates on it and you were supposed to mark down who you voted for." Aberdine explained.

"I must've been sick that day." Eddie said.

"I think I spat my gum into the ballot." Amanda admitted blushing.

"A lot of people just spoiled their ballots but still, whatever people who DID vote, voted for Cassie." Aberdine said finally. "Seriously you guys, if you can't keep track of school politics I'd hate to see what you'll be like in the real world."

"I don't remember it either, guys, so don't feel bad." Shannon admitted. "But we're stuck with her now and we need to just, deal with it until next year."

"I'd just bail." Eddie said. Amanda nodded in agreement.

"I can't just bail, the guys in the committee are really nice people. They need help and I can't just forget about them." Shannon sipped at her juice box. "Besides, other than the stress of fundraising our entire budget, the planning part seems to be actually kinda fun." She smiled to emphasize her point.

"Gimme a ticket." Aberdine tossed three dollars at Shannon. "I'm only doing it to support you. I don't plan on going." she said.

Shannon handed at ticket to Aberdine and put the money in a small pouch in her bag. "Great! Now if only we could get more people to come."

"I'll try talking some girls on the team into going. They might not go for it since we have a game that same week." Amanda said.

"I'll try to talk to some of my friends and see if they'll go." Eddie added.

"What friends, Eddie. We're your friends." Aberdine snarked.

"I have an idea, Aberdine. Why don't you talk to your friends. If you have any." Eddied scowled. Aberdine stuck out her tongue in reply.

The bell wrang and lunch was over. Shannon sighed and gather her things. "I'll see you guys later. I have to help the committee after school so..." she shrugged and ran off. Aberdine gathered her things and followed suit.

Amanda lingered a bit with Eddie. She looked at the tickets and after a moment of thought gathered them both up. "I'll hold onto these. Knowing you, you'd probably try to lose them on purpose so you wouldn't have to go."
