Shannon

Some more Shannon to brighten your day!

A friend of mine said reading Shannon made him think of his high school days. I'm really happy about this pseudo review.

The dance was an exceptional success despite its rocky start. The students that showed up had a great time and even Erin and Scott's slightly off sense of music was met with wide acceptance. All that was left now was the clean up.

"I can't believe we pulled it off." Shannon said to Aberdine. She keep herself couldn't smiling.

Aberdine had stayed to help Shannon clean up. She rolled her eyes and looked around. "I guess. I never go to dances so I couldn't tell you if it was  a good dance." She admitted.

"Well, a lot of people had fun so I consider that a success!" Shannon smiled.

"I guess we actually pulled it off." Beth said. She had finally calmed down and left the bathroom and was able to enjoy the end of the dance. She was still shaking a bit.

"Beth! Did you talk to Ben? He was worried about you." Shannon said.

"Ben's always worried about everyone." Beth said dismissively. "Did we make our budget?"

"We're still out by $22" Ben said as he and Damien walked up. "Are you ok, Beth?"

"I'm fine, Ben." Beth rolled her eyes. "Damien, I guess we owe you one. Your plan saved us."

Damien took a small bow.

"For now." Ben added.

"Who's this?" Damien asked pointing to Aberdine. "I don't recognize her as a committee member."

"This is my friend, Aberdine. She's helping with the clean up." Shannon said.

"Sorry, but only members of the planning committee and student council can be in the school after hours." Ben said.

"Can't you just look the other way this once, Ben?" Shannon pleaded. "We need all the help we can get with the cafetorium. We still have to set up all the tables and chairs again."

"Just let her stay, Ben." Beth commanded. She turned to Aberdine. "Aberdine, go to the cafetorium and start helping there."

Aberdine saluted and followed Ben and Damien into the cafetorium leaving Beth and Shannon alone in the front hall. Shannon turned to Beth as handed her a broom. "So what do we do next?"

"We appeal to the student council for funding so we can continue to plan events." Beth said. "Ben thinks because today was such a success they may overturn the budget and give us a bit. Every little bit helps, right?"

"I don't mean to burst your bubble, Bethy, but that plan just won't fly." Cassie's arrogant voice resonated through the empty hall. She came walking around the corner and stopped, hands on her hips, staring down Beth and Shannon.

"Cassie. I didn't know you came tonight. No one saw you." Beth said.

"As student council president I have access to the back stage. I was enjoying the dance from behind the curtain."

"So, did you have fun, ms. president?" Beth asked hopefully.

"It was," Cassie paused to find the right word, "adequate. But that's not what I'm here to tell you. As I was saying your plan to appeal to the council for money won't work."

"Why not?" Shannon asked. "If you put it to a vote I'm sure they'll agree."

"Because the budget has already been approved by the principal and vice principal. Even if we put it to a vote it would have to be unanimous and then if the principal disapproves nothing is changed." Cassie paused. "And I think the budget is fine the way it is." She turned to strut away.

"Why are you doing this, Cassie? What did the event planning committee do to you!?" Shannon cried.

"Shannon, calm down." Beth said grabbing Shannon by the arm to hold her back.

"You better keep that one on a leash, or the event planning committee might find itself closed down indefinitely." Cassie turned and stromed out the front door.

Shannon took a deep breathe and turned again to Beth. "I'm sorry, Beth. I don't want the committee to be shut down. I just can't stand Cassie."

"I know, Shannon." Beth said. "But we don't have much of a choice right now. We have to put up with her. At least for this year."
