It took me a while to get into a writing mood, and when I finally started to get into the sway of this and felt like it was going to be amazing!
My brother called me because he needed help with Kingdom Hearts 3D
I should've never bought that crappy game....
The leaves swayed lazily back and forth in an almost hypnotic motion. The array of colours made it look like a raging inferno as the son reflected through the trees. Autumn had come.
Percy sat on the porch watching the world slowly slip into darkness. The cries of children having fun slowly dwindled and were replaced by the quiet creaking of crickets. Percy knew he was going to die.
He had been diagnosed with cancer a few months ago. The doctors had given him a few weeks to live and he was already overdue. He could feel his body fading already, the cold chill of the autumn night went unnoticed by his goose-bumped skin.
As the night fell and the neighborhood lights went silent, Percy took his last deep breathe.
The lights all went out plunging everything into darkness save for the small porch-light Percy had left on. The wind picked up and soon, out of the darkness, a black-clad figure emerged and walked up the porch.
"It's time." the black figure spoke.
Percy smiled. "I've been waiting for you."
"Not many do."
"Do you mind if I make one request before we go?" Percy asked.
The black clad figure shook his head. "Go ahead."
"Just sit and talk with me a while. It's been a long time since I had some company." Percy patted the empty chair next to him. The tall shadow swiftly glided to his side and sat beside him.
They sat in silence a moment.
"I've always liked the fall." Percy started. "The way the leaves change colour, the slight chill in the air. Nature at its most beautiful." Percy paused a moment. "If I had to choose a time to die, now would be the time."
"Lucky for you." The grim figures voice echoed.
"I don't resent you for this." Percy said looking at his dark robed companion. "We all have to die sometime."
"Sometimes we have to die too early."
"And that's a tragedy but it can't be helped. We all don't get to live as long as I do." Percy looked out into the darkness beyond his porch. "I am eternally grateful for the long and fulfilling life I've had."
Percy turned to his companion. "If you asked me if I could do it all over again, I would do exactly the same."
"Even the part with Kathleen Parker?"
Percy went silent a moment. "I hadn't thought about Kathy in years."
"She's dead now."
"I supposed you'd know." Percy snorted. "Did she die peacefully?"
"As peacefully as anyone else." The grim figure paused. "She wasn't happy to see me."
There was a moment of silence.
"How often are they unhappy to see you?" Percy asked the stranger.
"More often now than in the beginning. More people are dying with regrets."
"I guess if you have no regrets you don't care about dying." Percy looked back into the abyss. "I don't suppose you can tell me what comes next."
"All I know is that you die. What happens next is not for me to know." The hooded figure turned to Percy. "Are you scared?"
"A little. I won't lie." Percy shook his head. "No one wants to die, but I don't begrudge this life for having to end. It's like a well written story. You want it to keep going, but when you get to the end you're satisfied. I guess my story was a well written one."
"Not everyone is as good an author."
The reaper stood finally, looming over Percy. Percy continued to look into the abyss.
"We've talked long enough. It's time to go."
"Of course, you're right." Percy stood up. "Lead the way." he said.
The black robed friend walked over to the porch-light and blew it out.
