So my internet wasn't working when I wrote this but it's up and running now!
Enjoy some Shannon!
The event planning committee had no choice but to continue to hold dances without any budget. Left over refreshments had to be recycled and Scott and Erin continued to DJ for free drinks. It didn't help that Cassie had pushed them to hold a dance every month.
At the Winter Wonderland all the event planning committee looked miserable. After throwing a dance at the end of November Cassie forced them into throwing another just two weeks later. They were VERY behind budget on this one.
"I just want to curl up into a ball and forget about this." Shannon lamented to Aberdine.
Shannon sat on the floor of the hallway a few feet away from the ticket booth. Aberdine had shown up to join her for moral support.
"It's just so much stress!" Shannon cried. "At least the other students are enjoying the dances we throw." She leaned against the cold wall and stared at the ceiling.
"If you hate it so much why not quit?" Aberdine asked.
"I can't do that to Beth and Ben. They put their whole being into this. I can't just turn my back on that." Shannon said.
"What if you all quit? Then you could start charging money to plan these stupid dances." Aberdine suggested.
"That wouldn't work." said Shannon. "Even if we all quit all that would happen is Cassie would stop throwing dances at the school and start throwing parties at home again."
"I can't believe our school would let someone as corrupt as Cassie run for student council president. Let alone actually win."
Shannon laughed. "At least it's only for this year."
The two were silent for a moment.
"Have you seen Jeremy recently?" Aberdine asked.
Shannon put her head down. "He came with Cassie to the dance. I had to take his ticket."
The two girls sat quietly for a while. The music thumped loudly from the cafetorium. A few more students had trickled in and were waiting to turn in their tickets.
"Thanks for coming." Shannon said. "I really appreciate it."
"Don't mention it. I'm here for you." Aberdine smiled.
"Amanda and Eddie couldn't make it tonight. They had too much homework. I'm just glad someone came so I could talk to someone about all this." Shannon hugged Aberdine.
"Haven't you made any friends in the group?"
"No one I feel close enough to talk to." Shannon looked away again. "I like Beth but all she does is worry about the committee and complain about Ben. Damien's just loud and angry all the time. And Ben's a bit weird."
At that point Damien walked around the corner and shouted down the hall. "Hey Shannon! Your break was over five minutes ago! Can you hurry up and run the ticket booth again!?" He shook his head and walked away again.
Shannon sighed and the two stood up. "Looks like I have to get back to work."
