The crazy thing about writing is every time I write more of Shannon I think I've written less than a page worth of material. I'm always surprised to see how much I actually write though.
The Valentines dance was just days away and the committee was still over budget. They were no where near the minimum amount of students required to break even.
"We could charge two dollars a drink instead of one." One of the other students suggested.
"No one will pay two bucks a drink!" Aberdine snapped.
"Why don't we just wait until the night of?" Shannon asked. "Thats when we usually get the majority of our guests."
"Because Cassie is coming to see how the dance is getting along." Beth said.
"So what?" Damien spat. "All she can do is blame herself! If we can't throw a dumb Valentines Party it's because she cut our entire budget!"
"She wants to cut the entire committee, Damien!" Ben spat back. "If she thinks we're doing a bad enough job she'll just disband us altogether!"
"Maybe she should, this is just getting ridiculous!" Damien dropped into his chair with a harsh thud. He threw his arms across his chest and pouted in place.
"We may not like her, but she's still our student council president." Ben said.
As if summoned by all the very mention of her name, Cassie walked through the door at that moment. And she didn't look happy.
"Ok losers this dance better be on schedule or there'll be hell to pay!" She yelled as she walked in the room.
"Well, we're off to a fine start." Damien jeered rolling his eyes. Cassie whipped her head around and glared at him. He just ignored her and continued to sit with crossed arms.
"Ms. President we are well on our way to holding the best Valentines dance yet." Beth smiled and held out small stack of papers. "We just need your approval on some of these things."
Cassie looked at them with disgust, snatched them from Beth and quickly scribbled a signature across them. "You better have a better DJ than last time."
"We'll be DJing the party!" Scott announced proudly.
"Again!" Erin grinned.
"I don't want them to DJ." Cassie said glaring at Beth.
"We can't afford anyone else." Beth said shrinking away.
"Well find someone else or this planning committee is through!" Cassie yelled.
"Maybe we'd have an easier time finding someone if we had a budget." Damien said from his stationary spot in the room.
"Damien! Shut up!" Ben cried.
"I want him out of the committee too." Cassie said.
"The president doesn't have authority over club membership." Damien countered.
"That's true." Ben echoed.
"Whatever. I'll just shut down the whole committee." Cassie turned headed to the door. She stopped in the doorway. "I'll stop by tomorrow. Make sure everything is running smoothly or esle!" She turned and swiftly left the room. They all let a collective sigh of relief.
Aberdine laughed. "What's eating her?"
"Who knows. She's been extra harsh on us lately." Beth ran her fingers through her hair. "She actually called Ben and I out of our classes today to chew us out."
"Isn't that an abuse of her powers?" Shannon asked.
"I've already spoken with the principal about it." Ben reassured Shannon. "If she does it again he'll speak to her. In the mean time it looks like she's going to stick to threatening to close to down the committee, which is completely in her power."
"That still stinks if you ask me." Aberdine grabbed her bag. "What are we going to do about the budget?"
"Well," Beth sighed, "I guess we'll just have to figure it out tomorrow."
