Oh ho ho! Time for Part 3!
Are you excited? Wanna know whodunnit? Well? do ya!? DO YA DO YA DO YA!? Too bad! Today is yet another exciting installment of our murder Mystery, right here in Murder Mystery March! (not really).
The bell rang at the front desk and out stepped a rather disgruntled looking clerk. He looked like he just woke up and haphazardly threw his uniform on. His hair was a mess and Avery was pretty certain he was emitting a funny smelling odor. His name badge read "Louis."
"What do you want?"
"I'm looking for the hotel room of a guest, Paul."
"I can't give out information on hotel guests." Louis yawned and turned to walk away.
"I'm a detective. I'm investigating the murder that took place here last night." Louis turned and stared at Avery with a raised eyebrow. Avery held his gaze.
"Lets see a badge then." Louis jeered.
Avery pulled out his badge. Louis just looked even more annoyed that he had to comply now.
"Fine." Louis typed a bit at the hotel computer. "He's in room 38." Louis turned to leave again.
"Could you direct me to his room?"
Louis gave an exaggerated sigh. "Its on the west side of the resort, near the laundry room and 3rd bar. Are we done now?"
"That's all, thanks." Avery knew where the room was, he just wanted to bother the clerk a bit for his attitude. As Louis left, Avery took a comments card off the hotel desk. He made a mental note to fill out the "How was our service" section with brutal honesty later.
As Avery walked past the 3rd bar and laundry rooms he observed that the customers at the resort didn't appear to be shocked or alarmed that a murder had occurred. If he had to guess, they probably didn't even know it had happened.
He reached the door of room 38 and knocked loudly. The sounds of a muffled "Just a minute" came from the other side. The door opened and a man in a silk robe stood. With his robe undone he left nothing to the imagination. Upon seeing Avery he hastily covered himself.
"I'm sorry, I was expecting someone else."
"Paul?"
"Yes, Paul Staffer. How can I help you?"
"I'm detective Avery Simmons. I'm here investigating the murder of Kimberly Douglas."
"Murder!? What murder!?" Paul looked around panicked. "I didn't do anything, I swear! I didn't even know there was a murder until just now! Not until you told me!"
"Relax, Mr. Staffer, You're not a suspect yet."
"YET!?"
"If you'll answer a few questions for me I'm sure I can clear this up. If you'd just co-operate this will be over soon."
Paul looked around nervously. "Ok, come on in." He ushered Avery into the room and shut the door behind them. He sat down on the bed and waited for Avery to proceed.
Avery surveyed the area quickly before taking out his notepad and monogram pen. "So, Paul. I'm only here to confirm something I was told about last night."
"And what were you told? Who would tell you anything about me? I don't know anything about last night, I told you I didn't know there was a murder until now."
"Calm down, Mr. Staffer."
"I'm sorry. I'm just not used to being questioned about murder." Paul seemed to be a nervous wreck.
"I'll make this quick. I just need you to confirm you were with an Adam Conway last night."
"Adam Conway? No, No I wasn't with any Adam Conway."
Avery looked at Paul. He seemed nervous, but he had seemed that way the moment he saw Avery. "Are you sure about that?"
"Who said I was with this, Adam?"
"Adam did, himself."
"Well he's lying. He's a liar. I was in my room last night calling my wife and child back in Montana. I certainly wasn't with Adam."
"Interesting." Avery tapped his lip with his pen.
"I'm away on stress leave. My doctor said it would be good for some alone time, that's why they're not here. I just miss them so I decided to call them."
"So you never left your room last night?"
"Right after the dinner service I came straight here and called my family. That's it."
"That's it?"
"Ok, I watched a Porno but I don't think I should be made to be a monster for that!"
Avery closed his note pad and put it away. "No sir, that's fine. I'll be leaving now. I need to have a talk with Adam."
"Yes! Tell that Adam to stop spreading lies about me!" Paul stood as he shouted. His eyes lit up with fire. "I wasn't with him last night! I don't know any Adams!"
