I decided to write a murder mystery for you guys! I've always been fond of the genre and would like to write a full murder mystery novel one day, maybe even a series of novels.
I'm sure you all remember Jag Ajula from last month, this isn't the continuation of that (although I will continue it!) this is a separate story. It's really more of an exercise in writing a continued story. This is just Part 1. Part 2 will pick up tomorrow where we left off today.
The body was wrapped in a silk bath robe, the same as the ones found in the gift shop of the resort.
"What can you tell me about the victim?" asked Avery Simmons.
"She was 21 years old and her name was Kimberly Douglas. She arrived two days ago with her boyfriend Adam Conway." The on duty cop recited.
"Where's Adam now?"
"He's in his room right now. We suspected him first but he has an alibi that places him in the rec. room at the time of murder."
"Cause of death?"
"Well," the cop pulled back the robe to show the multiple stab wounds that littered her body. "She was dumped into the ocean and washed up on shore late at night. The grounds keeper found her."
"Have an autopsy done on the body. Keep the resort on lock down. No one leaves without authorization until we've solved this. I'm going to question the grounds keeper. Where does he live?"
"Just follow the path on the right side of the main hotel check in. It's just a small cottage with a chain link fence."
"Thank you." Avery Simmons tipped his hat to the on duty cop and headed up to the main hotel check in.
Avery started his trek to the grounds keepers cottage. He came to the resort to relax, instead he's found himself in yet another crime that he has to solve. So much for vacation.
Avery stopped walked past the chain link fence and knocked on the door of the grounds keepers. A minute passed before the door opened revealing an unshaven beast of a man.
"You're the grounds keeper?"
"Yes." came Ivan's booming response.
"I'm Avery Simmons. I'm here investigating the death of Kimberly Douglas."
"The girl who washed up on shore?"
"The very same."
Ivan looked around before stepping aside. "Come on in."
Avery accepted the invitation and looked around the house. The walls were lined with pin ups of all sorts. The place was a mess. "Don't entertain much?" joked Avery.
"I spend my days cleaning up the garbage people throw away on the resort. I don't have the energy to clean when I get home." Ivan pulled up a chair and gestured for Avery to sit. He did. Ivan turned a chair around and sat across from the detective. "What can I do for you?"
Avery flipped open a notebook and readied his monogram pen. "I'm just here to ask a few questions, nothing too personal. You found the body, correct?"
"Yes, I found the girl."
"Can you tell me about it?"
Ivan sat up straight. "I found her on the beach. At first I thought she was just asleep on the sand, so I tried to wake her and pulled her further inland. When I noticed she wasn't waking I radio'd the hotel management. They came with the police and I told them what I told you?"
"Why were you at the beach so late at night. The reports say you found her around 3 AM."
"I was picking up garbage the tourists throw into the ocean. They always throw away what they're done with. No respect for mother nature."
"Why did you have to do that at 3 AM? Couldn't you do it sooner?"
"The garbage all washes ashore around then. The tide goes down and makes it easier to pick up most of the garbage that people would over look. I've been doing my job for 13 years. I know whens the best time to clean the beach."
"I didn't mean to insult you, I apologize." Avery finished writing what he had learned and flipped his notebook closed. "That'll be all. Thank you for your co-operation." Avery stood up left the cottage. His next stop was Adam Conway's room.
