We now return to our murder mystery! Another short section today, it ends here due to building of suspense.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy it!
Avery knocked heavily on suite 21, it was about time Adam told him what really happened. If Adam's alibi can't be confirmed that places him as the prime suspect for murder. If it can be confirmed, then hopefully Adam can help Avery figure out who would want Kimberly dead.
No one answered the door.
Avery knocked again. "Adam, open the door. It's Avery Simmons!" He called. Still no answer. He tried the door but it was locked. Avery looked around for assistance but there was no one. Shrugging he headed to the hotel lobby to get a second key.
The first thing Avery noticed as he entered the lobby was the lack of Louis standing behind the desk. Instead, in his place was a fresh faced young girl smiling brightly. Avery smirked a bit.
"Where's the other guy whose normally here?"
"Oh! You mean Louis? His shift is up. He's probably at the bar. I can page him for you if you'd like." She reached for the hotel phone.
"No!" the girl jumped at Avery's vigor. "I mean, that's quiet alright. I'm actually looking to see if someone has checked out. I'm looking for an Adam Conway."
"I'm afraid no one is allowed to check out right now sir. If you're worried about additional fees added to your bill for prolonged stay, don't be. We've been instructed to wave any late check out fees. Please enjoy the resort for as long as is necessary."
The young desk attendant smiled to punctuate her sentence. Avery smiled too, it was nice to see the hotel management was working with him now.
"I need the spare key to Suite 21. It's for the investigation." Avery politely asked the desk attendant.
"I'm sorry, I'll have to get management's approval for that, sir. One moment please." She got on the phone and explained the situation to the manager, after a moment she hung up. "He'll be right down."
"Thank you. I really need to get into Suite 21."
"Why do you need to get into my room?" Avery turned to find himself face to face with Adam. It's good to see Adam was still around.
"I'm actually looking for you. It's about your alibi." Adam looked around nervously. "Paul Staffer claims he never met you and right now your alibi hinges on his testimony."
"What are you saying?" Adam started to sweat.
"I'm saying you're still the prime suspect, and unless you can account for your whereabouts I'll be forced to take you into custody."
"You mean you'll have made an arrest." Avery swung around to see the manager standing by the desk with a smug smile on his face. "EXCELLENT! Then I can get back to running this business like a business. Pauline!" He snapped to the desk clerk. "Get the police over here right away to arrest that man!"
"He's not under arrest just yet!" Avery boomed. The manager glared. "Adam, you have to tell me what really happened!"
"I already told you the truth! I met Paul in the rec. room and we spent the night together!" Adam looked like he was about to burst into tears. "It's the truth! That's all I can say!"
Avery examined Adam. He was clearly panicked, emotional, but he was telling the truth, Avery knew that much. But without confirmation there was nothing he could do. He had to get Paul to verify his story.
"I'll be right back. Don't leave this lobby Adam! I need to talk to Paul." Avery headed off to room 38.
"I'll make sure he's arrested before you even get back!" Called the manager. "This charade of an investigation has gone on too long!"
