Shannon Continued

This was the rest of the chapter I wanted to post on Thursday. Combining it with the previous entry makes it regular Shannon story length. Enjoy!

Shannon followed Amanda into the kitchen to see why everyone was spending time in there instead of out in the living room dancing with the others. The kitchen was much less crowded which put everyone at ease. There was maybe a handful of girls hanging around with drinks in hand gossiping about the boys at school.

"He's such a hottie!" Shannon heard one remark. "Eeww!" Another retorted, "Have you seen his face?" A few of the girls giggled. "Have you looked in a mirror." The first girl countered. The kitchen broke out in laughter. All the while Shannon felt lost.

Shannon wedged herself between Amanda and the fridge and stood there awkwardly wondering what, if anything, she was supposed to be doing.

"Cassie, where is he?" Amanda asked her friend who was sipping a drink out of a red plastic cup.

Cassie just rolled her eyes and looked at Amanda sideways. "He's not here."

"Why not! I specifically asked you to invite him!" Amanda said. She looked back briefly at Shannon who was watching intently.

"He didn't want to come, what's it matter anyway? I didn't even know you liked Jeremy." Cassie chugged the rest of her drink.

"I don't." Amanda said. She turned to Shannon. Shannon perked up and smiled at Amanda. "Hey, why don't you go to the other room and mingle a bit."

Shannon pouted and looked at Amanda with the saddest expression on her face she could muster. Amanda just turned her back on Shannon.

"Ok." Shannon said quietly, and she quietly left the kitchen.

She snuck around the outside wall of the living room which was cramped and eventually came to pair of staircases. One lead down where she could hear people laughing. The other lead upstairs where there was no lights on and it was quiet. Feeling a bit overwhelmed Shannon went upstairs.

When she reached the top of the stairs she went into the first room on the right. As luck would have it, it was the bathroom. She flicked on the light and peered out into the hall. The loud thump of the music and the chatter of crowd downstairs could still be heard clearly.

Silently Shannon searched the upstairs for something interesting. There was three bedrooms. The first and closest to the washroom must have been Cassie's room. It was fairly messy (like Amanda's) and her book bag was on the floor.

The second room must be her parents room. At least, that's what Shannon thought at first. It was a well kept room with a makeup desk next to the window and a large walk in closet. It only had women's clothing and there was no sign of mens cloths.

The last room was a room at the end of the hallway. It too was messy. It seemed more like a guest room than an actual room. There was open suitcases with mens clothing all over. Shannon wondered who's room this was. She made a mental note to later ask Amanda if Cassie had an older brother.

She left the rooms and ventured back downstairs. At the bottom of the step were two boys now. Shannon recognized one of them as one of the boys Jeremy hung around in math class.

He looked up and Shannon and recognized her. "Hey! I remember you! We had math together!"

"Yeah, we did." Shannon stopped smiled politely.

"I'm Carl, by the way." He said. His friend started to laugh.

"Carl's on the prowl!" He howled. Carl punched him hard in the rib. The other boy just laughed and walked away.

"Ignore him. He's a loser." Carl said taking a step towards Shannon. Shannon finished climbing down the rest of the stairs. Carl was about the same height as Shannon. He had a mess of curly blonde hair and hazel eyes. "Hey, do you play video games?" He asked suddenly.

"Um. No. I've never played video games before. I prefer to draw and read." Shannon said truthfully.

"How can you know you don't like it if you've never tried it?" He said. "C'mon!" he motioned her to follow him downstairs. "Rob's got his system hooked up downstairs on that sweet big screen! Come play a round with us."

Shannon hesitated looking off towards the kitchen.

"I promise to go easy on you."

"Ok." Shannon finally agreed and she headed downstairs following Carl.
