Another short one.
The problem with writing is I love to leave cliff hanger endings. I'll continue this segment later on Sunday like I did last week.
It had been a couple of weeks since the party. Amanda was spending a lot more time around Shannon these days. Shannon once asked her if she was going to anymore parties that weekend.
"Oh, I'm kinda busy lately. I don't have time for them right now." Amanda would reply before changing the subject to something else.
The second semester was well under way now and Shannon's English class had just finished their first subject study on poetry. Now they were going to be do a group book study.
"Alright, settle down everybody." Mr. Wilkinson called. "First we'll be splitting the class in half." He made a grand sweeping motion with his arm to demonstrate. The class chuckled. "I'm kidding. Sort of. You will be divided into two sections but not based on your location. I've already randomly decided who will be working with whom."
Mr. Wilkinson called out a list of people in the class including Amanda and told them to stand on the left side of class. Everyone else was to stand on the right.
"Now, the left side will be reading Aldous Huxley's A Brave New Word. And right side will be reading George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty Four. Afterwards you'll be giving group presentations on them."
"Like, all of us will be giving a group presentation on A Brave New World? How's that going to work?" A boy asked on the left side of the class.
"As clever as question as you think that is, Mr. Stafford, I have already thought of that. You will be paired up in groups of two to work on a presentation together. One member will be from one side of the class, the other will be from the other side of the class." Mr. Wilkinson informed the class.
"Do we get to pick the groups?" Amanda asked.
"No. I've already picked them. When I read out your names find someplace to stand together and wait for my further instructions." Mr. Wilkinson pulled out a separate list and began reading off names. "Amanda Spencer, you will be paired up with Aberdine Desmarais." Amanda looked stunned. Aberdine slowly walked from the right side of the class to the left where she stood a few feet from Amanda and folded her arms.
As the groups were read out the pairs would awkwardly stand next to each other and await further instruction. Shannon wondered silently who she would be teamed up with when finally her name was called.
"Shannon Baker, you will be paired with Jeremy Pritchard."
