Shannon' Story!

Apparently the sonnet was a big hit yesterday! Wow!

I'll do another one when I get a chance. In the meantime I have a schedule to keep.

And that schedule demands more Shannon!

The rest of the class filtered in. Shannon recognized a few of the goofy boys who were friends with Jeremy had taken a table at the opposite end of the room. A couple of girls had sat at their table and were talking with Jasmine.

The bell rang and everyone settled in and waited.

And waited.

And waited.

The other students had gotten restless and started talking again. The class was noisy with chatter until one of the students got up and started to pack his stuff.

"Where are you going?" one of the girls at Shannon's table asked.

"The student handbook says that if the teacher doesn't show up to class after fifteen minutes then class is cancelled. It's been fifteen minutes since the bell rang. I'm leaving."

"Hot damn!" One of the goofy boys called out, and almost all the students packed their things and started to leave.

Without saying goodbye, Jasmine packed her stuff and left with the other girls at her table. Shannon just stayed behind with a pocket of other students, including the shy chubby boy next to her.

"Looks like its just you and me." She said to him.

He buried his face deeper into his arms.

As soon as the last student who was leaving cleared out in walked the teacher.

"Good, all the slackers have left." he announced with his arrival. "I'm your art teacher, Mr. Fineas Porter." He stood up at the front of the class and smiled at the handful of students left. "I'm glad some of my students take art seriously. This may be considered a "fluff course" but that doesn't mean I don't take it seriously and neither should you.

One of the students raised their hand. "Yes, you." Mr. Porter pointed at him.

"Um. Is it true that after fifteen minutes, if the teacher hasn't shown up class is cancelled?"

"Excellent question and the answer is, no. That's just a rumour we can't seem to expel. It's been around since I was young even. Truth of the matter is unless I or another authority figure says so, class is not cancelled."

Shannon smiled, happy that she stayed behind.

"Rule number 1 of my class is to always expect me to be late. I'm too old to deal with the mouth breathers that I'm forced to teach."

The students stirred uncomfortably.

"Relax, it's a joke! Rule number 2. Unless I say otherwise I'm joking." Mr. Porter paused for a moment. "That wasn't a joke." the students chuckled and he continued.

"Because class is 15 minutes shorter than your others, it means I have to get right to work the second I get in. So lets dive in shall we?" Mr. Porter turned to the white board at the front of the class and began.

Shannon smiled. She knew she was going to like this class.
