It's Tuesday! So more Shannon!
The weekend had come Shannon was looking forward to a couple days of rest and relaxation. Despite her relatively light school load Shannon wanted to forget about her homework and school and just spend the weekend by herself.
Shannon and Amanda had sent Eddie to walk ahead of them so they could talk in private. Eddie moaned and sulked onward while they waited at the school for a few minutes before departing.
"Eddie's such a dork! It's like he can't be away from us for two minutes!" Shannon joked.
"He's like a puppy dog," Amanda added, "he follows you home and you can't seem to get rid of him sometimes."
The two laughed and started the long walk home.
"So why haven't talked to Jeremy yet!" Amanda wasted no time getting to the issue.
"I don't know. I'm just nervous. I want to do this at my pace." Shannon looked at the ground as she spoke.
"At your pace the end of the world will come before you talk to him!" Amanda jabbed Shannon in the rib. "The best way to do these things is to jump into it! Both feet first." She jumped forward to illustrate her point.
"But what it's scary!"
"I know its awkward at first, but the more you do it the better you get at it. Like everything practice is the key!" Amanda winked.
"Easy for you to say," Shannon pouted, "You're just so out there!"
"Thanks." Amanda said rolling her eyes.
"You know what I mean!" Shannon corrected herself. "You're more open and expressive. You always have been."
"You're not as shy as you think you are, Shannon." Amanda said. Shannon smiled to herself.
The two walked along quietly for a bit.
"Oh by the way, we're going to a party Saturday night. So have something nice to wear." Amanda added non-chalantly as she was about to head off down the park path to her home.
"What? Why? Do I have to go?" Shannon asked completely taken by surprise.
Amanda stopped walking and slowly drudged back to Shannon. "It's no big deal. It's just a little get together my friend is having and I invited you to come with me. It'll be fun! You never go to any parties anyway! This will give you a chance to get out there and mingle, meet new people, make some friends, practice flirting." Amanda smiled as broadly as she could trying to make the last point sound more positive and hopeful.
Shannon glared.
"Or, ya know, maybe just make friends." Amanda played with her fingers trying to act innocent.
"What are you up to." Shannon asked stepping closer to Amanda.
"Nothing, I swear!" Amanda said throwing her arms up in defense. "I just thought it would be fun if you got to see the other side of high school life, is all."
Shannon sighed. "I was looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend alone."
"You can have your alone time Sunday." Amanda said. "Or even Saturday during the day. Just promise me you'll come to the party! It would mean so much to me! I keep telling all my friends about my awesome best friend! They've never met you and I want them to meet you!"
Shannon was starting to feel uncomfortably forced into this. She scratched her arm nervously. "I don't know..."
"Just for an hour! I promise if you don't like it, we'll leave!" Amanda pleaded.
"OK, fine. I'll go to your dumb party. But you owe me!"
"Yes!" Amanda shouted hugging Shannon tightly. "You'll love it! I promise!" She took off at a run down the park path. "See you tomorrow night!"
