Today is kind of a weak setup to some of the more important parts yet to come in Shannon's story.
Whenever I write something I'm not entirely happy with I remember 2 things.
1) Nothing is edited on here. It's all as it came to me. If I took the time to edit and fix the problems and plot holes and story devices so they're seamlessly integrated into the stories, everything would be 100x better.
2) The point of the blog is to JUST WRITE. It's mostly an exercise in accomplishing what I set out to do.
With Shannon in particular I want to prove to myself that I can write something novel length. After I finish writing it I do want to go back, edit, and fix up anything that didn't sit well with me.
"So..." Jeremy began trying to kill the awkward silence in the shoppe. "Eddie seems a little high strung."
"Eddie?" Shannon looked up from her drink, "he's just used to staying home all day. He doesn't go out much. Says it's just not fun for him."
"I think he's got some issues to work out." Jeremy stated flatly.
"Like what?" Shannon arched her brow.
"I don't wanna say anything. You guys seem really close and I don't want to start anything." Jeremy coyly said. "But lets not talk about Eddie."
"Ok. What do you want to talk about?" Shannon asked feeling a bit lost.
"Well, what about you? What do you want to talk about?"
"Um." Shannon tried to think of a topic desperately, something Jeremy would be interested in talking about. "So, do you do any activist stuff?"
She wished she chose another topic, any topic, to talk to him about.
"Oh, um, yeah." Jeremy stumbled "I like, go to protests and stuff all the time."
"Really? For what?" Shannon asked.
"Hey guys!" Amanda plopped down beside Shannon. "Sorry I disappeared. Where did everyone else go?"
"Well, Eddie just left." Jeremy said pointing at the door. "And I think I need to get going too." Jeremy stood up and walked to the door. "See ya, later."
Shannon shoved Amanda. "We were getting close!"
"Sorry, but I have to talk to you." Amanda looked upset. Shannon nodded and waited for her to continue. "You know I'd never do anything to hurt you right?"
"Yeah." Shannon nodded.
"So if you found out, something, about me that might upset you, you know that's the last thing I want, right?"
Again Shannon nodded.
"Shannon. I don't want to do anything that could come between us." Amanda looked away nervously.
"Amanda, what are you talking about?"
"Did Aberdine say anything to you?"
"What? No. About what?"
"Good." Amanda stared off.
"Amanda what's going on?"
"Shannon, you trust me right?" Amanda looked her in the eyes. Shannon nodded unsure of what to say. "Good, good." She looked off. "I gotta run."
"Wait," Shannon called after her, "are you going to tell me what's going on?"
Amanda stopped at the door to the shop and looked back at Shannon. "I can't right now. I promise I will." And then she was gone.
Shannon sat there staring at the mess on the shoppe table. The owner came over and looked down at her. "You want another one?"
"Sure." Shannon replied not entirely sure where her celebration went wrong.
