Short Story Saturday!

I don't know what promted me to write this, but I like it.

The Light Hearted Folly of Irvin Catternogg

Irvin Catternogg worked at a toy store. He loved his job, even if he wasn't very good at it.

You see, it was Irvin Catternogg's responsibility to make sure all the new toys were out on display when they came in. And Irvin Catternogg (usually) did his job well.

One day Irvin Catternogg's boss came to speak with him.

"Irvin," he said, "you're doing a fine job. You deserve a promotion!"

"And with your promotion will come new responsibilities. Do you think you can handle that, Irvin?"

Responsibility is a big word.

Responsibility is a big, scary, word.

And Irvin was very afraid of the big scary word.

"No thanks." Irvin Catternogg said, and continued to stack boxes.

Irvin Catternogg still works at the toy store. He still puts toys on display (usually) when they're supposed to.

Irvin Catternogg never went anywhere.
